Luisa Bonilla I began my professional career in 1999 doing community relations/public affairs for WLTV Unvision, Miami. Then in 2005 moved to produce news in the Telefutura Network today known as Unimas. I was in the broadcasting field until 2013 when I moved into the educational field. I worked as a testing coordinator for the Hillsborough County Public Schools. Today I work as a Parent Academy Liaison, and am very motivated to be involved with students, parents, and our community partners. I am a mother of two teenagers Darvin and Kiara, and they both attend Hernando County Schools. In my free time I love to work as a volunteer in different events in our community and love to participate in the 5K run/walk.
Kelly Gormley Hello, I’m Kelly Gormley. I joined the Parent Academy in April 2016. I am originally from England where I have worked in Education for the last 11 years. I have 2 beautiful children who are currently in 7th and 9th grade here in Hernando County. Working for the Parent Academy has given me a huge insight into the value and support that is available for all us parents to ensure our children have a successful journey throughout their school years. I love that it encourages our Schools, Teachers and Parents to work together as a team and I’m looking forward to meeting many of you at our events.
I'm Rachelle Pinder and I was born and raised here in Hernando County. It was in third grade when a Brooksville Elementary teacher inspired me to become a teacher simply because she believed in me. The desire to teach fueled my passion for education. This is now my 23rd year of teaching and I have held positions in elementary, K-8, and middle schools. I have taught at different schools over the District and have found goodness in all of them.
I have three children and all of them attend or have attended Hernando County Schools over the years. My oldest son is 22 and attends the University of Central Florida, my 20 year old daughter is a sophomore at Pasco Hernando State College, and my youngest son is 16 and attends Nature Coast Technical High School. My children have given me much insight into parenting over the years and I continue to learn things from them. Likewise, I have been blessed to have my parents, my biggest fans and supporters, continue to give me guidance and wisdom on parenting and life.
My background in education includes a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of South Florida and Master’s Degree is in Educational Leadership from Grand Canyon University. I hold state certification in Elementary Education grades K-6, Middle Grades Integrated Curriculum grades 5-9, Library Media Specialist all grades and Educational Leadership all grades. My endorsements include ESOL and Reading, along with National Board Certification. I have worked for the Florida Department of Education as a consultant for Families Building Better Readers. In 2016, I was recognized by the State and District as being one out of 75 of Hernando County's High Impact Teachers.
I'm delighted to have been selected to be a part of the Parent Academy in Hernando County and I am looking forward to the exciting initiatives that the future holds.
Shelby Santos As a product of Hernando County Schools, part of my journey into the Parent Academy has been providing parents with the information that my parents and I searched hard to find. There is such joy in connecting the resources we have to the families we serve, including my own nieces and nephews. Being fortunate enough to have engaged parents, I truly know the value that comes when a family embarks on learning together
My journey to the Parent Academy began twenty-three years ago when I was hired as a Title I Parent Educator at Eastside Elementary School. Over the years, I learned early on that all parents love their children and want them to succeed in school. There have been many challenges and barriers to overcome, but it has been the most rewarding experience I have ever had. Today when I am out and about in the community and I hear, "Hi Mrs. Z.!", it means the world to me that I made a difference.
